Disc-headed Linked Dress Pin
Description
Silver gilt disc-headed pin set with a single garnet. A two-stranded wire braid and a beaded wire are set inside a silver frame and surround a now empty circular cell in the centre of the flat pin head. An iron stud is visible in the middle of the empty cell. Under magnification it shows that the framing filigree was made from silver and then gilded. The back of the pin is plain, but the iron middle stud is visible here, too. 7th century. One of a pair of linked pins with APSB 19.
