Strip Brooch
Description
Fragment of Middle Anglo Saxon silver strip brooch. The brooch comprises a broad, sub-triangular plate of silver sheet, tapering towards one end which terminates in a small, backward-pointing loop representing the remains of the pin mechanism; the other end is lost to a jagged break. The upper surface is decorated with a lightly incised design that cannot now be deciphered fully, perhaps originally representing a zoomorphic or interlacing motif. A single incised line runs around the outer edge, forming a simple border. The back of the brooch fragment is undecorated. The piece if fairly crumpled and damaged in places.
