Hooked Tag
Description
Silver hooked tag. A small sheet metal tag comprising an oval plate with two pierced holes of diameter 1.7mm at its upper edge. A perimeter of bosses is stamped from the back of the plate and passes from the attachment holes round its edge. A short sharp backward-pointing hook projects below the plate. The form of this hooked tag defines it as a member of Read’s early medieval Class A Type 2, suggested date c800 - 900 AD.
